TRIP OVERVIEW

Lugu Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in China and the biggest lake in Sichuan. It is famous for its amazing lake views and exotic ethnic traditions. It locates by the bordering area with Yunnan Province. Traditional people living around the lake are mainly an ethnic group called Mosuo, which is one of the most unique groups in China due to their matriarchy system. Among their traditions they have, the most interesting one is called “Walking Marriage”. Lugu Lake has a mixing culture of Mosuo, Tibetans and Mongolians.

Highlights:

The Old Town of Lijiang,a well-preserved old city of ethnic minorities with brilliant culture, is a central town of the Lijiang Autonomous County of the Naxi Ethnic Minority in Yunnan Province. Located on the plateau which is 2,400 meters (7,874 feet) above the sea level and embraced by the tree-covered Lion Mountain in the west, Elephant and Golden Row Mountains in the north, vast fertile fields in the southeast and crystal clear water running through. The Lijiang Old Town is built along the lie of mountains and the flow of rivers, providing a very precious sample of the research on the old-time architecture. The unique geographical location, historical background and multiracial inhabitants make it one of the most special.

 Shuhe Old Town is 8 km northwest from Lijiang City, it is a smal town on the ancient Tea and Horse Trade Road, because there are moutains and moutains in southwest China, horses were the best choice to carry cargo; and at that time, tea was the most important cargo to Tibet and other plateau area. Shuhe, because of the location, became an important stop on ancient trade road. Shuhe Old Town is a window that you could learn the Naxi Minority Nationality Trading Culture, in Shuhe, most of the houses are Naxi Style, the spring become a part of view in a house -- spring, pool, garden, tree and wood pavilion, are indispensable element of Naxi residence.

 Baisha Mural Painting is located at Baisha Villages, 10km north of Lijiang. Although the traditional houses do not look impressive, this was the cradle of the Naxi culture and ancient capital of the Naxi Kingdom.

 The Jade Dragon (Yulong) Snow Mountain is noted as the southernmost snow mountain in Northern Hemisphere. As a must-see attraction in Lijiang City, Yulong Snow Mountain is made up of 13 peaks with the highest one, Shanzidou, rising 5596 meters above sea level. The mountain range stretches 35 kilometers from north to south and 15 kilometers from west to east. The snowy and fog-shrouded mountain looks like a giant jade dragon seen from Lijiang Old Town, hence the name ''Jade Dragon Snow Mountain''. Yulong Snow Mountain is also called ''White and Black Mountain'' because the mountain is mainly composed of white limestone and black whinstone.
